Local roundup: Carroll leads Cougars to impressive win over Sierra

Christian Carroll hit three 3-pointers on his way to a game-high 21 points as the Golden Valley High boys basketball team held off Sierra of Manteca 57-52 on Saturday night.

Devon Powell scored 13 points and Evan Stillahn finished with 12 for the Cougars (2-0), who play host to Livingston tonight at 7.

Merced 73, Buhach Colony 61

Sophomore A.J. Stewart erupted for 29 points as the Bears won the consolation title game of the Modesto City Classic.

Jonathan Chairez scored 21 points for Merced (3-1).

Kaden Verdin paced the Thunder (2-2) with 22 points.

Livingston 71, Hughson 50

Harman Singh poured in 22 points as the Wolves defeated the Huskies at the Gustine Tournament. Anthony Deol chipped in with 12 points for Livingston.

Girls Basketball

Enochs 43, Buhach Colony 42

Keana Viss had 14 points and Raquel Garcia scored eight to lead Enochs to a win over the Thunder in the championship game of he 19th annual Lady Cougar Classic.

Garcia made the go-ahead basket after the Eagles got the ball after a scramble with seven seconds to go.

Buhach Colony’s Allison Wisdom had a chance to tie the game with a free throw after being fouled before shooting, but couldn’t convert the first free throw and Enochs recovered the rebound.

Whitney 70, Pacheco 35

Sam Rodriguez had 18 points, but the Pacheco girls lost to Whitney 70-35 in the championship game of the Los Banos/Pacheco Tournament. Maggie Morales scored seven points for Pacheco. Alanna Scott had 15 for Whitney.
