The California Highway Patrol will host a Christmas toy drive Saturday in Atwater.
The department’s annual “Cops for Kids” programs aims to help disadvantaged children during the holiday season, officer Jason Schoonhoven said. Officers are seeking new, unwrapped toys and gifts for children of all ages.
The CHP will be hosting a special donation day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Starbucks near Applegate Drive and Highway 99 in Atwater, Schoonhoven said. The CHP plans to begin distributing the toys next week, he said, but will continue accepting donations until 5 p.m. Dec. 20 at 5 p.m.
People who prefer to drop off gifts during the week can do so at the CHP office at 1500 Bell Drive in Atwater, the CHP said.

Schoonhoven said the CHP conducts Christmas toy drives each year. Next year, he said, the CHP will switch programs, conducting a nearly identical toy drive dubbed “CHiPs for Kids.”
