Two children, including a 2-year-old boy, were shot in Atwater on Thursday evening in unrelated incidents, police said.
Few details were available as both investigations progressed late Thursday.
Atwater police received a phone call at 4:41 p.m. Thursday from Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock about a infant being treated there for a gunshot to the leg, Lt. Sam Joseph said.
“That’s how we learned about it,” Joseph said. “That investigation is ongoing.”

Police said the boy’s mother did not notify police of the shooting because she said she was frantic and rushed the child to the hospital. She told police she was walking with the child on Olive Avenue and said they were shot at “randomly.”
Joseph said police were still trying to determine exactly where that shooting occurred.
At the same, Atwater police received multiple 911 calls regarding another, unrelated shooting.
Police said a teenage boy was reported shot around 5:15 p.m. and was found in a parking lot in the 2600 block of First Street, near Bellevue Avenue.
The teen’s age was not released.
Joseph said the teen suffered a single gunshot wound to the right side of his body, above his waist, from a small-caliber firearm. The teenager was taken by helicopter to an area hospital.
Joseph said a motive for the shooting has not been determined. Possible gang connections in the case have not been ruled out.
The investigations are ongoing and detectives are asking anyone with information to call the Atwater police at (209) 357-6394. Callers may remain anonymous.
Three people have been shot in Atwater since Sunday.
Ulysses Perez, 25, was found about 9:17 p.m. Sunday near the Fosters Freeze in the 1400 block of Winton Way, police said.
No arrests have been made and police are seeking information in that case as well.
