The Merced County Association of Governments will host several open house forums this month to get input on the draft regional transportation plan update to be released Tuesday.
MCAG officials said the transportation plan is the region’s primary long-range planning document. It specifies the investments and strategies necessary for the maintenance, management and improvement of the transportation network, officials said.
The plan also addresses the county’s public transit, highway, bicycle and pedestrian facilities.
This year’s update also includes a plan to accommodate the region’s future housing needs and to help MCAG comply with new state-mandated legislation to reduce greenhouse gases.

Forum participants can visit various booths showcasing parts of the draft plan. Some of those components include an overview, major transportation projects, future growth, goods movement, and public transit.
Officials said they will also showcase scenarios and performance options related to reduction of green-house gas emissions. Spanish interpretation and refreshments will be provided at each venue.
Formal public hearings on the draft plan will be held in May.
