Estephanie Partida’s late goal sent the Turlock girls soccer team to the top of the Central California Conference standings as the Bulldogs knocked off Merced 1-0 in a battle of unbeatens on Monday afternoon.
Caitlyn Duval (four saves) made a stellar debut in net for Turlock (10-0-1, 8-0-1 CCC), earning a shutout in her first start for the injured Ashlen Kuntz. It’s the first time Merced’s high-powered offense has been shut out this season. As has been the case all season, the Bulldogs (two goals allowed in league) did it with defense.
Merced (10-4-1, 7-1-1 CCC) was limited to four shots, but two of them from freshman striker Anisa Saechao proved dangerous. Saechao twice got in behind the Bulldogs defense and forced tremendous saves from Duval.
Partida finally broke the deadlock in the 75th minute when she spun on her defender and placed a shot into the top corner.
