The Gallo Center for the Arts has added a show by Grammy Award-winning R&B star Maxwell.
The singer-songwriter will perform in Modesto on June 24. Tickets are $69 to $119 and go on sale at noon Saturday.
The smooth singer rose to fame as part of the neo-soul movement of the late 1990s.
In 1997, he recorded an “MTV Unplugged” concert that featured his work, as well as covers of Kate Bush’s “This Woman’s Work” and Nine Inch Nails’ “Closer.”

He has earned 12 Grammy nominations and won twice in 2010, for best R&B album (“BLACKsummers’night”) and best male R&B vocal performance (“Pretty Wings”).
In the early 2000s, Maxwell took a hiatus from the studio and touring. He returned in 2009 with “BLACKsummers’night.”
Since then, he has worked and toured with artists such as Alicia Keys and Jill Scott. His other hits include “Sumthin’ Sumthin’,” “Ascension (Don’t Ever Wonder)” and “Lifetime.”
Maxwell will be the second high-profile contemporary R&B artist to play the Gallo Center this year. In late March, fellow Grammy-winning singer John Legend played a sold-out show at the venue.
