Merced Arts Wrap for April 25, 2014

Symphony’s Spring Concert

The Merced Symphony is scheduled to perform its annual spring concert at UC Merced’s Lakireddy Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

The program, sponsored by the Merced Symphony Association with Arts UC Merced Presents, will feature a program conducted by Music Director Henrik Jul Hansen with a guest appearance by the UC Merced Chorale led by Lorraine Walsh, according to a symphony press release.

The symphony will perform a world premiere of Kate Janzen’s Concerto for Saxophone, Trombone and Percussion. A graduate of California State University, Sacramento, Janzen has performed on piano and keyboard with the Merced Symphony for several years.

Tickets for the show are $35 general and $10 for students and may be purchased at the Multicultural Arts Center (645 W. Main St. in Merced), Merced Floral (2855 Park Ave. in Merced), Christina’s Fine Clothing (2852 G St. in Merced), Big O Tires (1261 W. 18th St. in Merced) and Goldsmith Jeweler (1828 Bellevue Road in Atwater).

Sound Remedy at Star Club

The Star Club will feature Sound Remedy at 9 p.m. today and Saturday, no cover, ages 21 and older only. The Star Club is at 1331 W. Main St. in downtown Merced.

Mikel Soria Jazz Trio

In celebration of International Jazz Day, the Mikel Soria Jazz trio is scheduled to perform from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Strings Italian Cafe, 731 E. Yosemite Ave. in Merced. Soria, who plays guitar, will be joined by Brian Toel on bass and Rudy Merino on drums.

Dance and Fashion Show

A Multicultural Dance and Fashion Show is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. May 3 at the Merced Theatre. Sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association, the event will feature Hmong, Cambodian, Thai, Spanish and Portuguese dancing and fashion. Admission is $15. For more information, visit

Kenny Rogers to perform

Country music legend Kenny Rogers is scheduled to perform at the Merced Theatre at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 9. Tickets for the show go on sale at 8 a.m. Tuesday.
