Merced Superior Court will host a Law Day education program today for local high school students.
This year’s Law Day theme is “American Democracy and the Rule of Law: Why Every Vote Matters.” According to event organizers, this theme will allow students to reflect on the importance of voting-rights laws.
Students will receive a tour of the courthouse and will get a chance to interact with court staff. Law Day, according to organizers, will also serve as an opportunity to bring the community together.
Merced Superior Court will also present its newest art display during Law Day.

Four art students from Atwater High School were selected to paint murals based on the Law Day theme. These murals will be unveiled at 11:45 a.m. by Merced Superior Court Judge John Kirihara.
The murals will be on display at the courthouse lobby at 627 W. 21st St.
The Superior Court worked with the Merced County School District in organizing the students’ participation and the painting of the murals, which are expected to remain on display for two years.
