Two stabbing victims apparently attended the same party Sunday night in Merced, just hours before both men were attacked, the Merced Police Department reported.
Both victims were found about 30 minutes apart in different places and both refused to cooperate with investigators, Capt. Tom Trindad said.
“We don’t know the motivation, we don’t know if they were attacked by others or if they attacked each other,” Trindad said.
Trindad said detectives believe both men may have attended the same party Sunday night on Childs Avenue.

Police said there were “possible gang overtones” in the cases.
Officers found 31-year-old Richard Armenta just before 9:30 p.m. Sunday in the 1100 block of East 20th Street. Police had been called to investigate a street fight.
Armenta suffered numerous stab wounds and was taken to a regional hospital with serious injuries, police said.
“Armenta said that he was getting out of his car when two vehicles pulled up blocking him in,” police said in a news release. “Numerous males got out of the cars and began hitting and kicking him.”
Armenta told police he was attacked by eight to 10 men. He said he did not know the men and did know know why he was attacked, according to police.
About 30 minutes after Armenta was found, police went to Gilbert Macias Park at the intersection of Childs Avenue and G Street after receiving a report of a man collapsing. Police found 25-year-old Alfredo Castellanos suffering from multiple stab wounds.
“Witnesses reported seeing Castellanos stumbling through the park like he was drunk,” police said in the news release. “Witnesses called police when they saw Castellanos fall down and found that he was injured, not intoxicated.”
He was taken to a regional hospital for treatment.
Updates on the conditions of the two men were not available Monday.
