Merced shooting victim expected to recover, police say

A 26-year-old gunshot victim from Merced remained hospitalized Monday but is expected to recover, police said.

The man was shot multiple times around 8:30 p.m. Friday in the 500 block of M Street, near Childs Avenue, the Merced Police Department reported.

“His injuries are not life-threatening, he is going to survive,” Capt. Bimley West said Monday.

Police found the victim in a parking lot in the residential neighborhood in south Merced.

Witnesses told police there was some type of argument between the victim and several males, described by police as Hispanic, just before the shooting. After the shooting, the males fled the scene, police said.

Investigators said the victim was unable to provide much information Friday night because of his injuries.

No arrests have been made and no weapons have been recovered, officers said.

Police are asking anyone with information to call Detective Chris Russell at (209) 385-4704 or the automated tip line at (209) 385-4725. Callers may remain anonymous.
