A man on a bicycle who was shot by the occupant of a passing vehicle has been treated for his injuries and released, Merced police reported Friday.
Police received a report of gunfire in the 1200 block of Canal Street about 11 p.m. Thursday. They found a 29-year-old man lying on a bench with a gunshot wound in his upper torso, police said.
The man reported being on his bicycle when a car with multiple occupants pulled up next to him, police said. A passenger inside the car pointed a gun and fired at the bicyclist before the vehicle sped away.
Police said the man on the bike was unable to give a description of the car, its passengers or the direction the car took.
