What did you have to do to get it in its present state?
Silveira: It’s been repainted, reupholstered, and the engine and transmission have been replaced.
What else do you want to do to it?
Silveira: Have a new tonneau cover made. It will be the fourth one.
How did you acquire your vehicle?
Silveira: I bought it new on Dec. 7, 1973, from Frontier Chevrolet in Fresno.
Why did you pick that particular vehicle, and what do you find appealing about it?
Silveira: I knew a truck would be a must-have, and I like the looks of Stepside trucks.
What started your love affair with cars?
Silveira: I customized my first bicycle at age 12, made a Stingray out of a 20-inch bike. I painted it, put butterfly handlebars and a banana seat on it.
What advice would you give others about starting such a project?
Silveira: Start with something in good shape and take good care of it.
Do you have any other collector vehicles or project cars?
Silveira: A 1969 Corvette Stingray coupe.
What’s your favorite memory of this ride?
Silveira: Driving it home from Frontier Chevrolet in Fresno and surprising my girlfriend, now my wife, with the truck.
