A 22-year-old felon was arrested Wednesday afternoon after a drive-by shooting on El Verano Way in south Merced, police said.

The incident was reported at 3:56 p.m. When police arrived they discovered a residence had been hit by several gunshots, according to Sgt. Bobby Chapman.

Witnesses described the suspect vehicle as a Dodge Intrepid and the driver as a man wearing a red shirt. Police said the car spun out after the shots rang out.

Police broadcast a description of the suspect vehicle and the driver. Shortly thereafter an officer spotted the car. The vehicle was stopped by police in the 200 block of South R Street. The driver, Vincent Gabriel Munoz III, was taken into custody.

Police say Munoz has gang ties and the crime appears to be gang related. Police found a revolver wrapped in a towel inside the vehicle.

Munoz will be booked at Merced County Jail on suspicion of firing at an inhabited dwelling, being a felon in possession of ammunition, being a felon in possession of a weapon, and being a documented gang member with a weapon, according to Chapman.
