Fun in the sun at Lake Yosemite

Five baseball players from the California Warriors out of San Francisco stopped by Lake Yosemite on Thursday to take advantage of the sunny summer weather. In between their three-game series with the Atwater Aviators, they had some fun in the park while attempting to balance across a slackline. According to the website www.gibbonslacklines.com, “slacklining is the act of balancing along a narrow, flexible piece of webbing which is low to the ground and usually anchored between two trees.” Warrior baseball player and veteran slackliner Brooks Leandro said the activity was started by climbers in Yosemite back in the ’70s, according to the website. However, for some, this weekend’s temperatures may be too warm for any outdoor activity. Saturday’s temperatures are predicted to rise to a high of 101 and Sunday is expected to reach 100. According to Christine Riley, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service at Hanford, the high temperatures will stay into next week. It won’t be until Thursday, she said, that Merced residents will see a slight cool-down with a high of 96. Low temperatures for next week are anticipated to drop to 68 or 69 degrees during the 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. time frame.
