Dog obedience class
A beginning dog obedience class will start at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Applegate Park in Merced. The class teaches basic commands such as sit, down and stay, as well as walking on a loose leash. It is also a canine good citizen class, which will test a dog’s manners. The instructors have more than 20 years of experience training dogs. There will be a drive-through pasta fundraiser to benefit 15-year-old cancer patient Kyle Begin from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Italo-American Lodge, 1351 W. 18th St. in Merced. Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for children at the door.

Yosemite apple picking
Yosemite National Park will hold its annual apple-picking event from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdayin the Curry Village apple orchard. One tactic to reduce bear encounters is to remove non-native food sources from Yosemite Valley. There are two historic apple orchards in the valley that attract bears to areas used by visitors. Park visitors and volunteers are asked to help collect apples from the trees in this orchard.
Fun events at Kewl Kats

Arts Center exhibit
“Range: County Artists Across the Spectrum” runs from now through Sept. 19 at the Merced Multicultural Arts Center, at 645 W. Main St. in downtown Merced. Open Mic Night at the American Legion
