Two men described by police as known gang members with lengthy criminal records were jailed last week on weapons and drug allegations.
Robert Yanez Sr., 36, was arrested Friday by the Merced Multi-Agency Gang Task Force on numerous probation violation warrants, and suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm and a gang allegation, the Merced Police Department said in a news release.
Gang agents spotted Yanez in the 3100 block of Bea Drive during a surveillance operation. A brief foot chase ensued, police said.
Yanez tossed a loaded semiautomatic .45-caliber pistol during the chase, officers said. It was later recovered by investigators.
