The Merced County Registrar of Voters’ office next week will conduct a drawing of alphabet letters to determine the order of the candidates on the November general election ballot.
The results will be used for the state Senate and Assembly races within Merced County, said Registrar of Voters Barbara Levey.
“Sometimes candidates believe that the placement of their name on the ballot has an impact on the vote,” Levey said. “So doing a randomized alphabet drawing leaves it to a game of chance, and there are no preconceived notions. It just leaves it all to chance and there’s no argument about the placement.”
The drawing of the letters is in accordance with the state Elections Code, Levey noted.
