Open Cockpit Day
Open Cockpit Day is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 31 at Castle Air Museum, 5050 Santa Fe Drive, Atwater. Tickets are $12 for adults, $8 for seniors, $5 for young people ages 6 to 17 and free for children and active military personnel. Run for the Fallen
The fifth annual Run for the Fallen, honoring U.S. military men and women killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, will be Saturday in Applegate Park, near 26th and M streets. Registration is free and begins at 7 a.m. Participants also can register at www.rftfmerced.eventbrite.com. The 4.2-mile run/walk begins near the park’s flagpole at 8 a.m.
Tea party meeting
The Merced-Atwater Tea Party’s monthly meeting will be 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. tonight at the Veterans of Foreign Wars hall, Fifth Street and Broadway Avenue. There will be a candidates forum for the main Merced County offices in the November election. District 3 supervisor candidates Daron McDaniel and Tony Dossetti, and sheriff candidate Vern Warnke will be there. Sheriff candidate Pat Lunney’s participation is anticipated.
The Merced City School District will host a Contractor and Vendors Outreach Workshop Wednesday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Rivera Middle School, 645 Buena Vista Drive. Thirty to 50 local contractors are expected to attend the event, where they can find out about bidding on the Rivera Middle School expansion project as well as long-term modernization at all district campuses. McSwain advisory council
The McSwain Municipal Advisory Council will hold its monthly meeting 7 p.m. Wednesday at McSwain Elementary School, 926 Scott Road.
