Security guard assaulted in confrontation at Merced Save Mart

Merced police are looking for two people who assaulted a grocery store security guard while committing a theft at Save Mart.

No arrests have been made, the Merced Police Department said Tuesday in a news release.

Police said a woman stole numerous cosmetics about 3:46 p.m. Sunday from Save Mart on Olive Street in Merced. As the woman was leaving, a female security guard confronted her.

A man, who was seen riding a “pink girl’s bicycle,” intervened and punched the security guard in the face, then pulled a knife and tried to stab the guard numerous time. “Fortunately, the suspect’s attempts at stabbing (the victim) failed and the only injury she sustained was a bruise on her face as a result of being punched by the male suspect,” police said in the statement.

Both robbers left the area. They remained at large Tuesday.

Police described the male suspect as a white adult, possibly in his 40s, wearing a white tank top and blue jeans.

The female suspect was described by police as a white adult, 25 to 30 years old, about 5 feet, 4 inches tall, weighing about 130 pounds with red-and-blue dyed hair.
