The Merced City Council will consider hiring an interim city attorney during a meeting Tuesday.
With City Attorney Greg Diaz leaving Merced after Sept. 8, the council will decide next week whether to hire Cristina Talley of Best, Best & Krieger LLP as interim city attorney.
Diaz confirmed in July he will leave the city after 13 years to accept an appointment as the Ventura city attorney.
Talley worked as the city attorney for Anaheim for 17 years, and two years in the same role for Pasadena.

City staff is requesting a supplemental appropriation of $77,500 to cover costs to hire Talley and any assistants for five months. The general funds reserves will cover $35,350 of the wages.
Because of the Labor Day holiday Monday, the council meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall, 678 W. 18th St.
