Big rig wreck shuts highway near Chowchilla

Both lanes of northbound Highway 99 just south of Chowchilla were blocked for about four hours Wednesday morning by an overturned big rig, the California Highway Patrol reported.

According to the CHP, the crash happened just after 5 a.m. near Avenue 241/2. The truck was reportedly carrying 17,000 pounds of products for Sears department stores.

Traffic was backed up about 3 miles, the CHP reported about 7 a.m. Northbound traffic was detoured onto Highway 152 until about 8:45 a.m., when both lanes were reopened. Southbound traffic was not affected by the crash.
