Local Sports Roundup: Atwater opens CCC play with soccer win

Christian Olguin and Luis Lopez both found the back of the net to help Atwater open Central California Conference boys soccer play with a road victory over Turlock.

Mario Chavez made a pair of saves to preserve the 2-1 victory for the Falcons (11-1-1).

Pitman 3, Golden Valley 2 at Veterans Stadium – Eric Vazquez turned in a second-half goal and an assist, but it wasn’t enough as the Courgars spotted the defending CCC champs a 3-0 lead at the half.

Ripon Christian 3, Le Grand 2 in Ripon – Sergio Garcia and Adrian Cuevas each scored goals in the loss for the Bulldogs.


El Capitan 3, Central Valley 1 in Ceres – Adyn Walten recorded nine kills and Jule Vue had five aces as the Gauchos opened up Western Athletic Conference play with a 26-28, 25-20, 25-22, 25-13 win over the Hawks.

Los Banos 3, Livingston 0 in Los Banos – Jade Fachin’s 25 kills and five digs paced the Tigers in a 25-15, 25-11, 25-21 win over the Wolves.

Stone Ridge Christian 3, Brookside Christian 0 in Stockton – The Knights picked up a 25-5, 25-12, 25-6 win with the help of Rachel Kaler, who had eight kills and eight digs. Sara Silva added 10 aces and 11 assists for the Knights.


Los Banos 9, Patterson 0 int Los Banos – The Tigers didn’t drop a set in any of the nine matches and extended their WAC winning streak to 51 consecutive matches. Amanda Marchese and Shirley Liu picked up wins for the Tigers (3-0 WAC).

El Capitan 7, Pacheco 2 in Merced – Eloisa Encenzo, Dana Villarama, Alex Georguieva and Alaika Valera all won their singles matches as the Gauchos (1-2) won their first WAC match over the Panthers.

Pitman 5, Golden Valley 4 in Golden Valley – Chadue Lee and Danielle Vigil picked up singles wins for the Cougars in their CCC opener.

Turlock 7, Atwater 2 in Turlock – Julie Dailey recorded the lone singles win for the Falcons (0-1).

Merced 8, Buhach Colony 1 in Atwater – Jaymee Illescas and Lisa Miao paced the Bears (1-0) with wins as Merced swept all six singles matches.
