After spending most of the summer driving season in neutral, Sacramento-area gasoline prices spiked about 7 cents over the past week, according to GasBuddy.com.
The current retail price of gas in the area is $2.61 a gallon, 12.5 cents higher than one month ago but still about 25 cents below the year-ago average.
Gregg Laskoski, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy, said that last week’s price increase was due, in part, to a disruption at Chevron’s refinery in Richmond, “but that is not expected to be a long-term problem.”
