Sacramento-area gas prices edged downward for a ninth consecutive week, and analysts predicted further, slow declines as autumn approaches.
National price tracker GasBuddy.com, which surveys more than 700 regional gas outlets daily, said the average retail price in the Sacramento region fell another 1.3 cents over the past week to $3.75 a gallon. That price is 9.3 cents lower than one month ago and a fraction of a penny lower than this time last year.
Nationally, the average price of gas rose 1.3 cents over the past week to $3.44 a gallon, down just 2.2 cents from a month ago and 13.7 cents lower than the year-ago level.
Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy, predicted that “motorists will be seeing lower prices by late September in most areas across the country.”

DeHaan noted that only 1.5 percent of U.S. gas stations are now posting prices of more than $4 a gallon.
