State site allows motorists to compare average premium rates among insurers

The California Department of Insurance has set up an online tool to help motorists compare average premium prices among insurers.

CDI’s Automobile Insurance Comparison Tool can be accessed here or via the “latest news” link on the CDI homepage, insurance.ca.gov.

The online tool allows consumers to make quick comparisons of average premium rates from national and local auto insurance firms. Specific premium quotes can be obtained by contacting agents of the insurance companies.

Prices on the comparison tool do not include a consumer’s available credits or discounts. However, the site’s discounts tab allows visitors to review discounts offered by each insurer.

“Consumers know the insurers that advertise on television and radio, but they may not know about the companies that serve their neighborhood and may offer a lower price,” state Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones said in a statement.
