The JCPenney store in Sunrise Mall in Citrus Heights on Friday will become one of the latest of a 500-store nationwide rollout of the 114-year-old retailer’s return to major appliance sales.
Texas-based JCPenney said its decision to re-enter the major appliance market after an absence of more than 30 years was based on the success of a recent pilot program in three markets – at more than 20 stores in and around San Diego, San Antonio and Tampa, Fla.
JCP officials said the JCPenney stores in Sacramento’s Arden Fair mall and the Westfield Galleria at Roseville will open their major appliance showrooms next Friday.
The pilot program began on Feb. 1.
At the Northern California JCPenney stores participating in the Friday rollout – including JCPs at Vintage Faire Mall in Modesto and Weberstown Mall in Stockton – each will have 100 to 215 appliances on display, including refrigerators, ranges, dishwashers, washers and dryers. Name brands include Samsung, LG, GE and Hotpoint.
As part of the initial rollout, which also includes online sales, the retailer is offering no-interest financing and free delivery.
