Solar power installers Ed and Chad Fralick saw the chance to both expand the reach of their current business and to diversify their business interests at the Rocklin Commons shopping center.
The father-son duo are opening a third showroom Monday for SunPower by Hooked on Solar, and right next door, they are welcoming craft beer lovers to the Sacramento region’s first franchise location for The Brass Tap pub.
“What I’ve done is design a 16-foot wall that is movable,” said 70-year-old Ed Fralick. “During the day, that wall is closed. People can come into our design center, and we’ll design them a solar system. In the evening when the design center shuts down, we open that (wall) up and it becomes part of The Brass Tap.”
Chad’s wife, Jackie Fralick, will be running the pub operation with help from experienced kitchen manager Fabio Vasquez. He ran a restaurant with a brewery in the San Jose-Milpitas area, Ed Fralick said, and will oversee a menu that includes such items as salads, burgers, pizzas and shrimp dishes.
“There are a lot of breweries around us here,” Ed Fralick, “but there are very few places where you can go and taste the different breweries. We actually have a very small brewery here. We can brew our own, but we’re going to use that more for the garage brewers, letting people brew in our system. We’ll have separate breweries come in and brew as well. We’ll have evenings where a brew master is here, and the public can come in to hear him talk about how he’s brewing and what he’s doing.”
The location, 5150 Commons Drive, is right near Studio Movie Grill and gets a lot of foot traffic, Fralick said. Hooked on Solar also has showrooms at 4035 Grass Valley Hwy. in Auburn and at 820 Sterling Pkwy. in Lincoln.
