Sacramento’s Planning Commission on Thursday approved a proposal for an 11-story residential tower at the corner of 19th and J streets in midtown.

The city of Sacramento’s Planning Commission unanimously approved the construction of an 11-story residential tower in midtown Thursday night.

Developer Nikky Mohanna has proposed her 19J tower at the corner of 19th and J streets. In a rarity for a project of its size, the proposal has enjoyed widespread support from businesses and residents, and members of the Planning Commission spoke favorably of the plan. One midtown resident wrote a letter to the city expressing concern about the building’s height, but other nearby residents appear to support the project.

19J would stand at 124 feet, requiring city approval to exceed the 65-foot cap for that neighborhood.

Mohanna said she plans to begin construction in spring 2017.
