Kings County Sheriff’s detectives are investigating the shooting of a 5-year-old early Tuesday at a home south of Hanford.
The child was rushed to Adventist Health in Hanford and then transferred to Valley Children’s Hospital.
“The 5-year-old, along with an 11-year-old, were watching television in their living room and heard a shot and noticed bleeding from his head,” Kings County Sheriff’s Office Commander Mark Bevens said.
Suspect Rowdy Paulo, 29, was arrested on suspicion of attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon and shooting a firearm in an inhabited dwelling.
Authorities said they received a 911 call about the shooting on the 9000 block of Iona Avenue around 3 a.m. Tuesday.
Detectives said they “discovered there was a hole in the east wall of the residence and another hole in an interior wall of the residence.”
“In addition, upon removing the interior wall, detectives were able to locate the bullet.”
Bevens said it was not immediately clear whether the shooting was intentional or an accident, but it didn’t appear to be self-inflicted. It wasn’t immediately known what kind of weapon was involved. An air rifle was found at the scene, and investigators sought to determine if it was used in the incident.
