T he car: 1959 Cadillac Coupe DeVille

The owner: Lon Richards, Mariposa

What are the key features of your vehicle? Restored to original condition including paint color.

What did you have to do to get it in its present state? Repaint original color, new radiator, transmission, interior carpet including trunk, a major tuneup, dual mufflers and new tires.

What else do you want to do to it? Maintain, drive, show and enjoy.

How did you acquire your vehicle? It was a Christmas gift from my adult son who recalls that in 1961 my wife and I had a 1959 Cadillac. So in 1988 he purchased the car in Southern California and delivered it to me in Mariposa.

Why did you pick that particular vehicle and what do you find appealing about it? I have always loved the body lines and style, especially the taillights and tail fins. It brought back old memories.

What started your love affair with cars? I always had a passion for old classic vehicles. I had a variety of old vehicles over the years but never kept them for various reasons. These two I vowed to keep.

What advice would you give others about starting such a project? Reach for your dream and do all you can to hang on to it.

Do you have any other collector vehicles or project cars? A 1939 Chevrolet two-door sedan.

What’s your favorite memory about this ride? Had one years ago and the fact it was a pleasant gift of memories from my son.
