Sierra Club presentation

The Merced Sierra Club will present two speakers during a meeting at 7 p.m. Oct. 16 at the Merced United Methodist Church, 899 Yosemite Parkway. Lisa Kayser-Grant of the Merced Bicycle Coalition will examine the county’s new Regional Transportation Plan and how well it addresses air quality concerns. Marlynn Manfredi of Mercedians Against Fracking will give an update on recent legislation and how effectively it deals with water, air and health issues. For more information, call (209) 723-4747.

Candidates forum

Merced College’s Los Banos Campus will host a Los Banos City Council and mayor candidates forum at 6 p.m. Oct. 23 at the campus, 22240 Highway 140. NAACP banquet

The Merced County NAACP’s 53rd Annual Freedom Fund Banquet is scheduled for 6 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Merced Senior Center, 755 W. 15th St. Keynote speaker for the event will be Sarah Lim, Merced County Courthouse Museum director. Ida Johnson fundraiser

A Chicken ’n’ Waffles Brunch fundraiser for Merced Union High School trustee Ida Johnson is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at It’s Our Kitchen, 1513 W. Main St. Tickets are $20 each. Kids pumpkin party

Merced’s annual Tiny Tots Pumpkin Party is a time for children ages 3 to 6 to decorate a pumpkin and partake in other Halloween fun at 5:15 p.m. Oct. 29 in the Sam Pipes Room of City Hall, 678 W. 18th St. The cost is $5 per child. Performances of “The Rimers of Eldritch” by Pulitizer Prize-winning playwright Landford Wilson are planned at the Mariposa County Park Amphitheater, 5100 Bullion St., 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
