A 20-year-old Atwater man was jailed Monday after investigators found what they described as a clandestine laboratory used to convert marijuana to hashish oil, the Atwater Police Department reported.
Salvador Delgado was booked into the Merced County Jail on suspicion of manufacturing hashish oil, also known as honey oil, according to police.
Officers spotted a group of people just after 11:30 p.m. Monday standing in the road in the 1800 block of Carter Way. At least two people from the group ran away as officers approached, Lt. Samuel Joseph said.
Officers were speaking with Delgado when they said they smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from a detached garage at the home. Police said Delgado “had no objections” to letting the police examine the garage and opened the door for them.
“Once the garage door was opened, marijuana was in plain view along with a drying rack, butane, rubbing alcohol and honey oil,” Joseph said.
The exact amount of marijuana seized was not available Tuesday.
Delgado was still in custody Tuesday at the John Latorraca Correctional Facility in lieu of more than $500,000 bail, according to booking records.
