The firefight is nearly over for wildfires west of Winters and in the Eldorado National Forest in El Dorado County.
The Cold Fire near Lake Berryessa was 90 percent contained by Tuesday night, and the Alder Fire, south of Highway 50, also was 90 percent contained.
The Cold Fire has burned 5,731 acres. The much smaller Alder Fire was kept to 25 acres.
The causes of both fires are under investigation.
The Cold Fire started Aug. 2 and firefighters have battled the blaze in steep, rugged terrain. About 640 fire personnel were still assigned to the blaze on Tuesday.
Full containment is expected Wednesday.
The Alder Fire in El Dorado County started about 3 p.m. Saturday on the south side of Highway 50 in the vicinity of Sand Flat campground, the U.S. Forest Service reported. It burned in heavy timber and steep terrain by Ice House Road between White Hall and Kyburz.
Full containment is expected Friday. Forest Service officials said residents in the area can expect to see smoke as the fire consumes vegetation.
