‘A Sacramento holiday.’ How to celebrate a local comic book series’ 1st anniversary
A year ago, Brent “Trayce” Sands was finalizing the first installment of his Sacramento-inspired comic book series, “Impound.” He released the first edition of the series on Nov. 7, 2020.
One year later, Sands has released eight books, including a children’s book and coloring book, and opened a location for Impound Comics in Downtown Commons (DOCO) in August 2021.
In celebration of the first anniversary, Sands, DOCO, the Sacramento Kings and Golden 1 Center are partnering to introduce the first Sunday in November as Impound Day to commemorate the launch of the Impound Comics series. People are invited to the store and encouraged to wear green in celebration of the day on Sunday.
“The one-year anniversary of the creation of the Impound comic book series is the landmark I’ve been waiting for,” said Sands in a news release. “A year ago, I certainly didn’t expect or imagine where I’d be today with an amazing storefront in the iconic DOCO plaza. I consider it the official beginning of an even more exciting future to come.”
On the first anniversary of the Impound series, Sands will release his anticipated Impound 3, which details how main character Anthony “Impound” Endsley finally obtains his superpowers.
Sands will also sign books at the Impound Comic Store, located in the DOCO main plaza at 500 J St., Suite 155, next to Echo and Rig.
“DOCO (and all of our partners) have been very helpful and very supportive of the Impound brand and trying to incubate it into a mainstream, household name,” he said.
The store also sells T-shirts, hats, hoodies, mask, and other merchandise such as coffee mugs, key chains, posters, stickers and trading cards.
The store will have extended hours from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. to celebrate Impound Day and the release of Impound 3.
“We’re trying to make this a Sacramento holiday,” said Sands. “I want this to turn into an extravaganza for the city.”
Impound Comics has been creating a buzz in Sacramento’s creative scene as the new superhero emerges for the city.
Sacramento was initially introduced to Impound Comics last year when Sands published his first comic “The Impound” series, officially bringing a superhero to the city.
