Happy birthday, California

An Admission Day Festival celebrates California’s 166th birthday. The bash, hosted by the California State Capitol Museum Volunteer Association, takes place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the north steps of the Capitol, 1100 L St. Cake and ice cream will be served on a first-come, first-served basis. The California National Guard will present the colors and the Sacramento Banjo Band will perform patriotic music. California was admitted to the union on Sept. 9, 1850, as the 31st state.

Sac City to break ground in Davis

To increase its offerings in Yolo County, Sacramento City College is scheduled to break ground on a $13.48 million expansion of classrooms, labs and lecture halls in Davis. The event is scheduled at 10 a.m. at 1720 Jade St. According to the college, about 2,500 of its 22,000 students take courses at the UC Davis West Campus. The new buildings will be geared toward science inquiry and exploration.

New interchange in Rocklin

Rocklin hosts a grand opening ceremony to celebrate the completion of construction of the Whitney Ranch Highway 65 interchange. The event takes place at 9 a.m. on the overpass of the Highway 65 interchange near Whitney Ranch Parkway and University Avenue. The interchange will be open to traffic in time for Friday afternoon’s commute, according to the city.

Rancho Cordova council to meet

The Rancho Cordova City Council holds a special meeting on the vision and priorities for the city, including discussion and direction to the staff on the use of community enhancement fund revenue for legacy projects. The meeting is scheduled at 1 p.m. in the Rancho Cordova Police Department Community Room, 2897 Kilgore Road.
