The Rancho Cordova City Council is scheduled to discuss economic development strategy at a special meeting at 4 p.m. in City Hall, 2729 Prospect Park Drive. The regular council meeting follows at 5:30 p.m.

Highway 84 work to cause delays
The state Department of Transportation alerts motorists to anticipate lane closures for Highway 84 for emergency pavement repair that would extend travel times in Yolo County south of West Sacramento for the next month. Workers are scheduled to begin demolition and pavement repair work from 6 a.m. through 6 p.m. on Monday, according to Caltrans. All access on Highway 84 from north of Babel Slough Road to south of Burrows Avenue will be closed. Northbound traffic will be detoured to Babel Slough Road, to South River Road and to Gregory Avenue for access to Jefferson Boulevard. Southbound traffic will be detoured to Gregory Avenue to South River Road and to Babel Slough Road for access back to Highway 84. Detour signs will be in place.
South Placer toy effort begins
The South Placer region and Roseville Fire Department launch the annual Toys for Tots campaign at 11 a.m. at Fire Station 7, 911 Highland Pointe Drive, Roseville. The Toys for Tots program supports the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. Those interested in making a toy donation are encouraged to stop by any fire station in South Placer County to drop off a new, unwrapped toy.

▪ Sacramento State’s University Union is the site of a three-day Causeway Classic Blood Drive, part of the annual competition with UC Davis. Students and faculty on both campuses will donate their blood to save lives. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.
