Town hall meeting on the arts
“Arts and the Fall Election 2016,” a town-hall meeting, takes place from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in the Alhambra Room of the Clunie Center at McKinley Park, 601 Alhambra Blvd., Sacramento. Sponsored by the California Lawyers for the Arts and Friends of East Sacramento, the scheduled participants are state Assembly candidates Cecilia Aguiar-Curry, a Democrat from District 4; Nick Bloise, a Republican from District 8; and Tim Gorsulowsky, a Republican from District 9. State Senate candidate participants are Rob Rowen, a Democrat from District 1; and Mariko Yamada, a Democrat from District 3. The event is free, but registration is required at sacb.ee/7Jfo.

‘Fruitvale Station’ screened
“Fruitvale Station,” written and directed by Sacramento State alumnus Ryan Coogler, is being shown at 7 p.m. at Verge Center for the Arts, 625 S St., Sacramento. The 2013 film is based on the events leading to the death of Oscar Grant, a 22-year-old black man who was killed in 2009 by a BART police officer at the Fruitvale station of the Bay Area Rapid Transit system in Oakland.
