Free health screenings planned

Sacramento Covered hosts its 16th annual Healthy Kids Day event, where area residents have access to free health screenings and other resources. The event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Sleep Train Arena, One Sports Parkway, Sacramento. Sacramento SPCA adoptions reduced

The Sacramento SPCA is hosting a special one-day adoption event Saturday, when all adoption fees will be reduced to $20. The SPCA’s goal is to place all the pets at the shelter into permanent homes by Dec. 23. The adoption fee for all pets includes spay/neuter, vaccinations, flea prevention, licensing, microchip, pet food starter kit, veterinary exam and more. Rocklin to light holiday tree

Holiday tree lighting and related Christmas activities start at 4:30 p.m. Saturday on Rocklin’s historic Front Street in the Quarry District. The three-hour event features Santa Claus and includes face painting, cookies, hot chocolate, cider, performances by local musical groups. The fun starts at 5251 Front St. in Rocklin.
