Bacon Fest begins

The weeklong Sacramento Bacon Fest begins with an opening party from 5 to 9 p.m. at Formoli’s Bistro, 3839 J St. For $30, participants will receive a drink and can sample six bacon appetizers. Taiko workshop for residents 50 and older

Musician and instructor Kristy Oshiro leads an “Introduction to Taiko Workshop” for residents 50 and older. The workshop will cover basic techniques, rhythms, some history and the Japanese language. The event is scheduled from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. at the Hart Senior Center, 915 27th St. Call 916-808-5462 for more information.

Roller derby boot camp

Sac City Rollers is sponsoring an eight-week boot camp for women 18 and older interested in preparing for roller derby rec league tryouts. The classes teach skating fundamentals while building strength and endurance . No prior skating experience is required. Participants are asked to show up at 6 p.m. at the SCR Cell Block, 1636 Kathleen Ave. The fee is $10 per class. More information is available at saccityrollers.com.

Free Americana music show

Singer-songwriter Heath Williamson hosts free live music at Old Ironsides, 1901 10th St. Williamson and his guests perform a variety of Americana and rock ’n’ roll cover songs. The event starts at 5:30 p.m.
