More than 40,000 Sacramento Municipal Utility District customers were reported without power Wednesday evening.
SMUD in a Twitter post said a car crash into a utility pole was a factor in the outages.
The largest outage, affecting 39,251 customers, occurred in the Arden area shortly before 8 p.m., according to SMUD’s website. Power was expected to be restored by 9 p.m.
Outages also affected 766 customers in North Natomas, 202 in North Sacramento and 202 in the Florin area.
