Coffee shops to raise money today for memorial fund honoring slain deputy

Four Dutch Bros. coffee shops in Sacramento will donate $1 from every drink sold Monday to a memorial fund in honor of Deputy Robert French.

French, 52, died in a shootout Wednesday at the Ramada Inn on Auburn Boulevard. Two CHP officers also were wounded. Thomas Daniel Littlecloud, 32, suspected of killing French with a high-powered rifle, died Saturday of his injuries. Two women also have been arrested in connection with the incident.

A 21-year veteran of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department, French is survived by three adult children, grandchildren and a girlfriend. A memorial service for the deputy is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at Roseville’s Bayside Adventure Church.

On Monday, Dutch Bros. locations at 4625 Manzanita Ave. in Carmichael, 5289 Auburn Blvd. in Sacramento, 7445 Madison Ave. in Citrus Heights and 8552 Madison Ave. in Fair Oaks will donate $1 from every drink sold to the memorial fund. The coffee shops also will have donation buckets available for patrons.

“Our prayers are with the sheriff’s department and the family of Officer French,” said Nikol Grubbs, owner of Dutch Bros. Sacramento, on Facebook. “We feel driven to honor his life and 21 years of devout service to our community.”
