Good morning. Here’s what you need to know today:
Warm, then wet: Today in Sacramento will be the calm before a few days of storms, according to the National Weather Service. Mostly sunny weather is expected today, with a high near 71. A 20 percent chance of rain after 11 p.m. Showers are then forecast for the next three days, according to the weather service.
Easter egg-citement: Many Easter celebrations are planned in Sacramento this weekend. For those venturing outdoors, here are some local events for those hunting for eggs and family fun.
Adapting to drought: Cemeteries and golf courses are struggling to limit the brown patches and keep their trees alive. Landscapers and nurseries are trying to educate customers about drought-tolerant alternatives to vast stretches of lawn. Homebuilders are dealing with rules requiring drip lines around new construction. All over California, businesses are reacting to the ongoing drought, and to the statewide water-use reductions ordered this week by Gov. Jerry Brown.
New Placer jail: Roseville’s longtime city-owned jail is scheduled to close next year. The city ran the jail so officers wouldn’t have to drive to Placer County’s main facility in Auburn. But the county will fully open the new South Placer Jail in Roseville by next July, so city officials say running their own jail is redundant.
New West Sac playground: Fast-track deal funded by Disney and West Sacramento will land new playground in Bryte Park.
Lead in: Despite 24 points, 20 rebounds and 13 assists by DeMarcus Cousins, the Sacramento Kings were defeated 101-95 by the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday night at Sleep Train Arena. Sim Bhullar did not play in his first game with Sacramento.
