In a close game, Sparks Police triumphed by one point to benefit the Placer County Law Enforcement Chaplaincy.

The Sparks Police Department beat the Placer County Sheriff’s Office 27-26 on Sept. 17 in the championship game of the third annual Mike Davis softball tournament in North Lake Tahoe.

The game honors fallen Placer County Sheriff’s Detective Michael Davis, Jr., who was killed in the line of duty on October 24, 2014, according to the Sheriff’s Facebook page.

The Placer County Sheriff’s Office invites teams from all over California and Nevada each year to play the softball tournament in his honor.

The teams played at North Tahoe Regional Park, which is dedicated to Davis.

The proceeds from this year’s memorial game went to the Placer County Law Enforcement Chaplaincy.
