Fallen palm frond blamed for downtown Sacramento power outage

Approximately 5,600 Sacramento Municipal Utility District customers in the downtown Sacramento were without power for about 30 minutes Monday afternoon after a palm frond became caught in a high-voltage line, said SMUD spokesman Chris Capra.

He said the outage began at 4:54 p.m. A troubleshooter traced the problem to a palm frond that hit a 21,000-vote line in the 3000 block of F Street, Capra said.

Power was restored about 5:20 p.m.
