Applause for the week of April 20

Kudos to: Sajan Badhan, Life Scout, Elk Grove Troop 288

Accomplishment: Acquired six park benches, six patio umbrellas, six umbrella bases and five concrete pads for Jessie Baker Elementary School, Elk Grove

Details: Badhan raised money and material donations for the additions to the school. The project cost $7,500. He thanked Elk Grove Rotary, Sacramento Optimist and Sacramento-Sutterville Optimist clubs and Hanford Ready Mix. He also expressed appreciation to Eagle Project Coach-Assistant Scoutmaster Michael Hatcher.

Kudos to: Thrasher Research Fund

Accomplishment: Gave a two-year, $150,000 grant to Sacramento State for study that could help youngsters with cerebral palsy walk independently

Details: The money will be used to study how intensive treadmill training in the home could help children with the movement disorder. Physical therapy professor Katrin Mattern-Baxter, the principal investigator, will collaborate with other researchers. Students working on physical therapy doctorate degrees at Sacramento State will work as paid research assistants.

Kudos to: AKC Reunite

Accomplishment: Donated a disaster-relief trailer with pet supplies to Sacramento County Department of Animal Care and Regulation

Details: The trailer has fans, lighting, generators, cleaning supplies, animal carriers, bowls, collars and leashes. The affiliate of the American Kennel Club donates trailers to organizations that provide animal care during the first 72 hours after a disaster.
