Police say report of attempted kidnapping in Roseville parking lot was unfounded

A report that a man attempted to kidnap an 11-year-old girl in a Roseville shopping center parking lot Monday was unfounded, according to Roseville police.

Detectives conducted an investigation and "are now satisfied that no kidnapping or attempted kidnapping occurred," police announced Friday in a Facebook post.

Officers responded about 7 p.m. Monday to the parking lot area between the Staples and Costco stores in the 6700 block of Stanford Ranch Road. An 11-year-old girl reported that a man she didn't know blindfolded her and walked her through the parking lot toward his dirty white panel van. The girl was able to get away and told her parents about the alleged incident, according to police.

Officers searched the area but were unable to locate witnesses, surveillance video of the man or any other evidence of the incident.
