A 20-year-old man is suspected of arson in a fire that burned shrubbery outside the Sears store at Arden Fair mall late Wednesday afternoon.

Hugo Stanfield returned to the mall on Thursday, and was identified and detained by mall security officers, according to a Sacramento Fire Department news release. The fire was captured by mall surveillance cameras.

Stanfield was questioned by fire investigators and subsequently arrested on suspicion of three counts of arson. Two of those counts are related to previous fires that occurred the same day in the 1800 block of Silica Avenue in Sacramento, the news release said.

Wednesday’s fire at Arden Fair burned a landscaped area along the exterior of the Sears building. Crews extinguished fire in shrubs and a tree, the Fire Department reported. The fire did not extend inside the building.
