Good morning. Here’s what you need to know today, Saturday, June 13, 2015:

Slightly cooler for the weekend

After a sizzling hot Friday, where the temperature reached a record 106 degrees in Sacramento, the Delta breeze should return late today and Sunday for a slightly cooler weekend, the National Weather Service reports. A high of 97 degrees is forecast for Sacramento today and 92 degrees on Sunday, with overnight lows in the upper 50s.

Maintenance work scheduled for Mack Road-Highway 99 area

The state Department of Transportation reports that maintenance work is scheduled Saturday morning in south Sacramento near Florin Road to southbound Highway 99. The eastbound Florin Road on-ramp and No. 3 southbound lane for Highway 99 will be temporarily closed to just south of Mack Road from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. Maintenance crews are scheduled for pavement crack seal work. Caltrans advises motorists to plan ahead for possible increased travel times or to use an alternate route. The California Highway Patrol will in the area for traffic enforcement.

Relay For Life planned at Hughes Stadium

The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life fundraiser to fight cancer takes place beginning at 4 p.m. at Hughes Stadium, 3835 Freeport Blvd., Sacramento. Individuals of all ages are invited to attend the event, which will feature activities, entertainment and food. Teams are encouraged, as well as sponsors and other supporters.

Fundraising party for choral group

The Sacramento Choral Society and Orchestra will host a year-end party and fundraiser from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the California Museum Lobby, 1020 O St., Sacramento. Conductor Donald Kendrick will host the event.

Croatian fest this weekend at cultural center

The Croatian Extravaganza: European Food and Music Festival features food, entertainment and more at the Croatian American Cultural Center, 3730 Auburn Blvd., Sacramento. The event, launched in 1982, takes place from noon to midnight Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

PAL basketball charity event at San Juan High

The Citrus Heights Police Activities League Charity Basketball Extravaganza is scheduled at 5:30 p.m. at San Juan High School, 7551 Greenback Lane, Citrus Heights. San Juan and Mesa Verde High athletes will take on Citrus Heights Police Department personnel.

Things to do

  • The Sacramento Marina hosts National Marina Day, which includes a nautical swap meet, food, children’s activities and live music by J’s House. The event takes place at 2710 Ramp Way, Sacramento.
  • The Effie Yeaw Nature Center holds “Along the River’s Edge,” a hike with a naturalist to explore habitat where beaver, otter, herons and other wildlife live. The excursion takes place from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the center, 2850 San Lorenzo Way, Carmichael.
