Too hot for birdies?
The first two rounds of the U.S. Senior Open on Thursday and Friday will very hot in Arden Arcade. While the weather will be tolerable today, we could see temperatures spike into the 100-degree range on both days. The temperature on Thursday is expected to be 100 degrees and then top out Friday at 102. Today’s maximum is forecast to be 90 in Sacramento.
Hearing in former Cal Fire chief’s murder trial
Closing arguments are expected in Sacramento Superior Court in the murder trial of former Cal Fire battalion chief Orville “Moe” Fleming, accused in the May 2014 slaying of girlfriend Sarah Douglas at their Elk Grove-area home.
Practice rounds for U.S. Senior Open
Practice rounds begin for the U.S. Senior Open golf tournament at Del Paso Country Club. First tee time is 7 a.m. each day, while gates open at 6:30 a.m. Entrance is at the intersection of Morse and Marconi avenues; parking is at Cal Expo, with free shuttle service.
Statue of Ronald Reagan to be unveiled
The Ronald Reagan Centennial Capitol Foundation, which celebrates 100 years since the birth of the former president and California governor, unveils its statue of him in the lower rotunda of the Capitol at 11 a.m. On hand will be former Secretary of State George Shultz as well as other former Reagan administration officials.
Things to do
- Family Field Day, sponsored by Raley’s and Lasher’s Elk Grove Subaru, will be held at Raley Field from 9 a.m. to noon for children ages 6 and under. Admission, parking, snacks and drinks are free.
