What’s that basketball court doing in the middle of Capitol Mall?
No, the Kings haven’t moved downtown — yet — but the NBA team will host a charity exhibition game on the temporary court Sunday afternoon. The special game culminates the Sacramento Kings Foundation’s second Rhythm ’n Rims fundraiser to support 15 local nonprofit groups.
The event kicks off at 9 a.m. Sunday with a 5K walk around the state Capitol led by former Kings players Scot Pollard, Doug Christie, Henry Turner and Kenny Thomas. Registration starts at 8 a.m.; fee is $20 for adults, $15 for youths age 6 to 17. Children 5 and younger may participate at no cost.
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., walk participants are invited to “Fandemonium” featuring music, food, entertainment and autograph sessions with the former players. According to organizers, supporters who raised $100 or more will receive admission to the exhibition game featuring current Kings players. So far, donations total more than $105,000.
